Director and Playwright Darío Facal will be conducting this free workshop in NYC. For three days Darío will be working with 32 actors, focusing on material from his stage adaptations of Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos and Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.

Darío studied Stage Direction and Dramaturgy at RESAD, Film Directing at New York University and Spanish Philology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, completing his artistic training in France and the United States. He is a founding member of the theatre company Metatarso for which he has written and directed 18 shows that have been staged in different national and international festivals of Contemporary Theatre. Some of his performances have been presented on stages such as Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin, Thearte Al’Qaumi in El Cairo or Teatro Español where he has directed El Burlador de Sevilla, mise-en- scène that has opened the current season at the theatre.
The most renowned titles of his production as playwright/adapter and director with Metatarso are Doubt, Love from Don Perlimplín with Belisa in the Garden for the Autumn to Spring Festival, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Dangerous Liaisons, The Imaginary Life of Bonnie & Clyde, Brief Chronology of Love, Theatre No More, Madrid Labyrinth XXI, Kepler’s Nightmare, Kellogg’s Politik or Morphology of The Solitude, among others.
Darío has directed texts by Heiner Müller, Caryl Churchill, Jean Genet and Jean Luc Lagarce. He has also premiered several performances in Lima (Peru), and has published three poetry books and six plays. His texts have been translated into English, French and Portuguese. He has directed several short films and has written two film scripts.
He coaches actors, teaches acting and directs the Studio Work in Progress. He has also taught Direction, Play and Film Writing, Text Analysis, History of Theatre, History of Film and Film Aesthetics. He has carried out his teaching activity in such prestigious schools as Europe Institute of Design (IED) Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), Centre of New Creators (CNC) and Alcorcón Municipal School of Cinema (ECA) of which he was president for 4 years. He is currently the co- director of the famed Corral de Comedias in Alcalá de Henares.
